Heirlooms are Mythic-tier cosmetics that replace the default melee skin in Apex Legends. Most sets include three items: a melee weapon skin, a banner pose or frame, and a voice line or emote. New sets typically debut during a Collection Event and later rotate into the Mythic Store for purchase with Heirloom Shards.

Heirloom Shards can drop from Apex Packs and are used to craft any available Heirloom Set in the Mythic Store. Packs that contain shards are not consumed on opening.

Tip: If you’ve opened 499 Apex Packs without receiving shards, the 500th pack guarantees 150 Heirloom Shards. You cannot earn additional shards if you already own every Heirloom Set.

When you secure a knock or elimination with an equipped heirloom, the kill feed shows the weapon’s name instead of a generic melee tag.

Release order

Typically, one Heirloom Set releases each season. According to former game director Chad Grenier, internal excitement and concept quality often determine which Legend gets a set next rather than a strict chronological queue. Sets debut during Collection Events before shifting to the Mythic Store for shard crafting.

Good to know: If you’re saving shards, keep an eye on Collection Events. Limited-time debuts sometimes include extra cosmetics and guaranteed unlock paths during the event window.

Origins

  • Hope's Dusk was handed to Wraith by the Voidwalker during her escape from a research facility.
  • Raven's Bite belonged to Bloodhound’s uncle, Artur, and was granted for a tribal rite of initiation.
  • War Club is a Māori patu crafted or commissioned by Gibraltar’s former partner as a gift.
  • Cold Steel is a data knife formerly owned by IMC Lt. Scryer and later taken by Bangalore as a trophy.
  • Garra de Alanza is based on a fan once owned by Alanza Andrade; Loba created a weaponized replica.
  • Strongest Link originally belonged to Newton Somers, who later passed it on to Ashleigh Reid.
  • Razor’s Edge was rebuilt from Fuse’s broken guitar, gifted by Bloodhound.
  • Shock Sticks likely nod to Lifeline’s stint as a drummer in a punk band.
  • Boxing Gloves likely reference Pathfinder’s run-in with boxer Victor Maldera.
  • Butterfly Knife’s exact origin is unknown, though Octane has been seen practicing (and getting cut) with it.
  • Death Hammer and Dead Man’s Curve were both seen in use before their formal introduction; their deeper origins remain unknown.
  • Energy Reader appeared in Wattson’s hands during a prior storyline, while its origin is otherwise unspecified.
  • Showstoppers surfaced during an Arenas moment in a Season 15 quest, with no official origin story given.
  • The second Wraith set (Hope’s Dawn), Revenant’s Death Grip, and Crypto’s Durumi Blade have not had formal origin stories disclosed.
