Apex Legends Maps Guide: Best POIs, Rotations, Loot

Table of contents

Overview

Apex Legends features eleven playable maps across two experiences. Five large-scale Battle Royale battlegrounds rotate through public and ranked playlists, while six compact Mixtape (formerly Arenas) maps support fast, round-based modes.

  • Battle Royale maps: Kings Canyon, World's Edge, Olympus, Storm Point, Broken Moon.
  • Mixtape maps: Party Crasher, Phase Runner, Overflow, Encore, Habitat 4, Drop-Off.
Tip: At the start of most seasons, a new map launches or an existing map receives a Map Update (MU). Smaller, themed points of interest called Town Takeovers appear less frequently and are inspired by specific Legends.

Map rotation

Battle Royale

In Play Apex, three Battle Royale maps rotate every 60–90 minutes. Ranked splits typically feature two maps that alternate mid-season. Following a fresh map or a major update, that map often gets featured exclusively for a short introductory window.

Play Apex rotation (example) Duration
Broken Moon 90 min
Olympus 90 min
World's Edge 90 min
Broken Moon 60 min
Olympus 60 min
World's Edge 60 min

Mixtape

Mixtape maps rotate rapidly to keep matches fresh: unranked queues swap roughly every 15 minutes, and ranked variants (when active) tend to run longer blocks.

Mixtape rotation (example) Unranked Ranked
Habitat 4 15 min 40 min
Encore 15 min 40 min
Overflow 15 min 40 min
Party Crasher 15 min 40 min
Phase Runner 15 min 40 min

History

Over time, rotation cadence and map availability have evolved:

  • Early seasons focused on Kings Canyon before World's Edge expanded the pool. Olympus later introduced high-mobility gameplay, followed by Storm Point and Broken Moon.
  • Seasonal Map Updates (e.g., Reforged Kings Canyon, World's Edge Decimated, Sabotaged Olympus) reworked key POIs and traversal to refresh metas without new maps.
  • Certain maps temporarily left rotation due to balance passes or stability issues, occasionally returning mid-season after hotfixes.
  • Limited-time modes added special variants such as After Dark versions and the Winter Express takeover.

Trivia

  • Most major map updates are nicknamed in trailers or season pages (for example: Kings Canyon Unearthed, Obliterated Kings Canyon, Reforged Kings Canyon; World's Edge Ravaged, Fortified, Decimated; Infested and Sabotaged Olympus; Monstrous Storm Point).
  • Rotation timing is occasionally adjusted at the start of a season to give players extra time to learn a new or overhauled map.
  • Town Takeovers are thematic POIs inspired by Legends and often arrive alongside in-game events.
