Pathfinder overview

Pathfinder is a cheerful MRVN who thrives on momentum, mobility, and team utility. Unlocked by default, this Skirmisher excels at rapid rotations, creative flanks, and fast repositioning thanks to a powerful tactical and one of the most team-friendly ultimates in the game.

Pathfinder portrait

  • Role: Skirmisher
  • Real name: MRVN
  • Birth date: Feb 04, 2658
  • Height/Weight: 6'2" (188 cm) / 937 lbs (425 kg)
  • Home world: Psamathe
Tip: Pathfinder’s kit shines when you chain abilities—use Grappling Hook to claim a perch, then deploy Zipline Gun to bring your squad up instantly.

Abilities

Grappling Hook (Tactical)

Fire a grappling hook that latches to terrain, ziplines, or even enemy players to pull yourself quickly toward the target. Maximum line length is roughly 21 meters, with a helpful crosshair indicator when within range.

  • Hooking to the side lets you swing and carry momentum rather than being pulled straight in.
  • Cooldown scales with distance traveled and movement, capping at about 30 seconds.
  • Can attach to moving objects and zipline riders; both you and a hooked opponent can still shoot.
  • Cancel the pull with crouch, attack, or tactical input to cut the line early.

Insider Knowledge (Passive)

Revealing items in a Care Package reduces the cooldown of Zipline Gun and fully charges it. Pathfinder can scan Care Packages even if a Skirmisher teammate has already revealed them.

  • Each reveal lowers Zipline Gun’s cooldown by 10 seconds, up to four times.
  • Use your ultimate before scanning to immediately benefit from a fresh charge.

Zipline Gun (Ultimate)

Create a long, fast zipline between two points for everyone to use. It’s excellent for rotations, escapes, and taking high ground—just remember enemies can ride it too.

  • Max range is very generous (about 200 meters); placement is blocked in out-of-bounds areas.
  • Riding speed is faster than standard ziplines, and you can zoom while aiming placement.
  • Up to four Pathfinder ziplines can be active at once.
  • Use it proactively to set a safe retreat path before a fight.

Legend Upgrades

In Battle Royale, leveling your Evo Armor unlocks temporary perks unique to each Legend.

  • Level 2: Forward Scout (access to Survey Beacons) or Insider Knowledge (access to Ring Consoles)
  • Level 3: Death Grapple (tactical cooldown reset on knock) or Zipline Zen (recently placed ziplines grant brief 25% damage reduction while riding)

Lore

Despite waking in an abandoned warehouse with no memory of his creator, Pathfinder chose optimism. Over years of searching, he learned he was part of an effort to save the Outlands from an energy crisis—the lone survivor of a lab explosion who delivered the crucial element that made the dream possible. He also discovered that his spare parts helped build another machine—his “child”—somewhere out there. Joining the Apex Games first to find his maker, he now competes to find any lead on that missing child, staying upbeat, helpful, and eager to make new friends (then outplay them).

History

Key balance and quality-of-life changes:

  • Seasonal reworks: Class updated to Skirmisher; passive now interacts with Care Packages to reduce Zipline Gun cooldown and grant instant charges.
  • Grappling Hook: Cooldown scales with distance traveled; improved detachment and momentum preservation; multiple bug fixes and handling tweaks over time.
  • Zipline Gun: Increased range and speed; improved targeting; cannot anchor out-of-bounds.
  • Hitbox adjustments: Moved from a large rig to a bespoke tall-thin profile, later refined for accuracy and fairness.

Trivia

  • Pathfinder’s kit draws inspiration from a beloved grappling ability—his high-five humor and optimism have become his trademark.
  • Because of his unique shape, his hitbox received special tuning to better match the model and keep fights fair.
