Loba Explained

Overview

Loba Andrade is a Support Legend introduced in Season 5 of Apex Legends. A world-class thief with a teleporting bracelet, she specializes in securing high-tier loot for her squad and turning the tide with resource control. Loba is locked from the base game and can be unlocked with in-game currency or through special editions.

“I've always felt it in my blood. I am a thief. And a good one at that… But something was always missing.”

Abilities

Burglar’s Best Friend (Tactical)

Throw a Jump Drive bracelet to teleport to hard-to-reach places or escape quickly. Cooldown: 25 seconds.

  • Teleport occurs where the bracelet lands; you can force it to drop straight down mid-flight.
  • Maximum throw distance varies by elevation: about 71 meters from ground level, and 100+ meters from high ground.
  • While the bracelet is in the air, Loba can’t fire weapons or use most items. If it lands out of bounds, it returns without starting cooldown.
  • Works while using ziplines. Some Legend abilities can cancel the teleport mid-flight.

Tips

  • Throw while sprinting to keep momentum and slide on arrival.
  • There’s a brief recovery animation after teleporting—plan your re-engage or escape accordingly.
  • Use windows and small gaps for creative entries; the bracelet’s trail and sound are loud, so be mindful of enemies.
  • You can force the bracelet down behind cover to land safely.

Eye for Quality (Passive)

See Epic (purple) and Legendary (gold) loot through walls within a large radius, similar to the Black Market’s range.

  • Range: roughly 112.5 meters.
  • Can ping items through obstacles and inside supply bins or care packages (ping range about 12 meters; optics can extend ping range).
  • Loot ticks and death boxes won’t be visible through obstacles even if they contain high-tier loot.

Tips

  • Use it to guide teammates efficiently and spot enemy presence when items suddenly disappear.

Black Market Boutique (Ultimate)

Deploy a portable shop that teleports nearby loot into an interface for quick pickup. Each player can take up to two items, with ammo exempt from the limit. Charge time: about 2.5 minutes. Loba starts each match at 50% charge.

  • Activates a few seconds after placement and emits a visible pulse that can alert enemies.
  • Shop radius is roughly 112.5 meters; items within range briefly hover when the market is being used.
  • Ammo does not count toward the two-item limit and is drawn in full stacks.
  • The device has health, can block doors, and can be collapsed by Loba. Deploying a new one removes the old one.
  • Can open closed supply bins and care packages by looting from them remotely.
  • Certain locked compartments allow Loba to steal one item, which immediately destroys the market and triggers a loud alarm.

Tips

  • Place it from safety to “vacuum” loot after fights or when third-parties loom.
  • Use late-game to deny ammo and prioritize shield swaps, batteries, and medkits.
  • After respawning teammates, drop the market nearby so they can re-gear quickly.

Legend Upgrades (Battle Royale, Season 20+)

Earn two perks as you level up your Evo Armor:

  • Level 2 choice:
    • High Value: Increases Burglar’s Best Friend height and range.
    • Market Expansion: +25% Black Market radius.
  • Level 3 choice:
    • Tactical Upgrade: -5 seconds to Burglar’s Best Friend cooldown.
    • Shopping Spree: Loba can take one extra item from the Black Market.

Lore

At nine years old, Loba witnessed the simulacrum hitman Revenant murder her parents. Orphaned, she survived by pickpocketing and mastering her craft as a thief, eventually stealing a prototype Jump Drive that let her teleport. With her bracelet, impenetrable vaults and coveted treasures became attainable, and her name spread across the Outlands.

When Revenant entered the Apex Games, Loba orchestrated a devastating strike on one of the facilities sustaining his body supply, leveling parts of Kings Canyon. Learning there were many such factories, she shifted her revenge: keep Revenant alive and suffering. The Games let her both needle her nemesis and indulge in a life of wealth built on perfect heists.

History (Selected Updates)

  • Season 18 (Aug 2023): Burglar’s Best Friend cooldown reduced to 25s. Black Market cooldown increased to 150s. Ultimate Accelerants restore 25% for Loba.
  • Earlier updates: Increased Black Market and passive loot detection range; start-of-match 50% ult charge; major improvements to bracelet reliability and momentum; Black Market ammo no longer counts toward the two-item limit; numerous map-specific teleport fixes.

Development

Loba was in development as early as 2018. A scrapped concept known as “Rosie” shared some thematic DNA but was ultimately replaced as designers and writers refined Loba’s identity. Her character direction aimed to reclaim glamor and unapologetic style, with influences from comic antiheroines and action icons. Motion capture work famously involved high heels to capture her gait and presence.

Teasers

  • Foreshadowed in the Season 4 launch, where Revenant killed her parents.
  • In-game devices and social teasers hinted at underground facilities, ARES capacitor blueprints, and her hunt for Revenant’s source.
  • Shorts and trailers showcased her teleporting bracelet and raised the stakes for Season 5’s map changes and story beats.

Trivia

  • Event skins have paid homage to Loba’s signature looks across other Legends.
  • Her “Last Request” finisher includes the unique voiceline, “You should smile more.”
