Mad Maggie: Apex Legends Guide, Abilities & Tips
Overview
Mad Maggie is an Assault Legend built to break bunkers, run down enemies, and turn chaos into an advantage. Introduced in Season 12, she’s locked from the base game and can be unlocked with 12,000 Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins. Portrayed by voice actor Nicola Kāwana, Margaret Kōhere brings ruthless momentum and anti-fortification pressure to any squad.
- Real Name: Margaret Kōhere
- Gender: Female
- Age: 56
- Home World: Salvo
- Class: Assault
- Tactical: Riot Drill
- Passive: Warlord’s Ire
- Ultimate: Wrecking Ball
Abilities
Riot Drill (Tactical)
Fire a drill that attaches to cover and burns enemies on the other side.
- Cooldown: 20 seconds
How it works
- Hold the tactical button to delay launch; melee cancels the launch.
- Can be used while firing, reloading, healing, and performing other actions.
- Direct hits deal 5 damage and bounce off enemies.
- After attaching, a flare pierces through the opposite side:
- Reach up to ~13 meters through surfaces; on-screen depth indicator shows detection.
- Activates ~1 second after attachment and deals up to 160 damage over 9 seconds; partially damages the object it’s attached to.
- Flare length ~5 meters and is not stopped by obstacles.
- Drill cannot be destroyed once attached; destroying the host object removes the drill.
- Moves with the surface it’s attached to.
Interactions
- Attaches to map props, walls, and doors.
- Attaches to many abilities and placeables, including Wrecking Ball, Dome of Protection, Amped Cover (can pierce multiple walls), Mobile Shield, Castle Wall, Nox Gas Trap, Surveillance Drone, and Tridents.
- Affected by Gravity Lift; can bounce off Knockdown Shields (including revival shields) and certain map features like Pathfinder’s Boxing Ring on Olympus.
Known quirks
- Surface detection can sometimes result in shorter-than-expected drill depth based on object geometry.
Warlord’s Ire (Passive)
Temporarily highlight enemies you’ve damaged and move faster while wielding a shotgun.
- Highlights: Damaged enemies are outlined through walls and obstacles for ~0.8 seconds.
- Shotgun mobility: ~1.15× movement speed while walking or running with shotguns (similar to holstered speed). ADS movement with shotguns effectively suffers only a minor penalty compared with other weapons.
Wrecking Ball (Ultimate)
Throw a ball that bounces along terrain, dropping speed-boost pads and detonating near enemies.
- Charge Time: ~2 minutes
How it works
- Bounces off floors, ceilings, and walls.
- Drops a speed pad every ~0.8 seconds in a zig-zag path.
- Stepping on pads grants up to ~30% movement speed for ~3 seconds (does not stack with other speed boosts).
- Pads disappear ~60 seconds after detonation.
- Breaks doors and detonates after its bounce limit, after ~10 seconds, or on striking an enemy.
- Explosion deals up to 20 damage in an area and briefly stuns (including Maggie if she’s in the radius).
Interactions
- Damages or counters many enemy deployables (e.g., Black Market Boutique, Castle Wall/Mobile Shield, Exhibit, Black Hole, Amped Cover, Nox Gas Trap) and can break Dome of Protection.
- Bounces off both sides of Amped Cover and Mobile Shield/Castle Wall; can bounce off players and explode shortly after.
- Usually ignores Mirage decoys, but can explode on decoys under certain conditions.
- Can be launched by Launch Pad and affected by Gravity Lift.
- Can be destroyed by Interception Pylon.
- Can be bounced by Knockdown Shields without depleting shield HP.
Legend Upgrades
Legend Upgrades were added in Season 20 for Battle Royale. As you level your Evo Armor, choose one perk per level (max two).
Level 2 Upgrades
- Shots Shots Shots: Automatically reloads shotguns on knocks.
- Fire Ball: Wrecking Ball ignites shortly after release. Upon the normal detonation timing, it emits a shockwave and lays thermite patterns, continues bouncing, then fully detonates on the second thermite release.
Level 3 Upgrades
- Drillslinger: +1 Riot Drill charge; −25% active duration.
- Big Drill: +50% Riot Drill depth and width.
Lore
Margaret Kōhere grew up alone in the dustiest corners of Salvo. There she met Walter “Fuse” Fitzroy, and together they built a mercenary duo that evolved into the Cracked Talon—where Maggie earned her infamous name. When rival warlord Sandringham Kelly signed a treaty with the Syndicate, Maggie’s dream of an independent Salvo collapsed, and Fuse left for the Apex Games. Furious, Maggie sabotaged Fuse’s debut to expose the Syndicate’s weakness and spark rebellion. The two eventually reconciled, accepting that Fuse chases fun while Maggie fights for a cause. Maggie survived her apparent death, was captured by the Syndicate, and sentenced to fight in the Apex Games—on their terms, not hers. She plans to make sure it’s never her death on the line.
