Octane Rating: What It Means for Your Engine
Octane
Octane (real name: Octavio Silva) is a high-velocity Skirmisher in Apex Legends. Introduced in Season 1, he focuses on speed, flanking, and relentless momentum. He’s unlockable with Legend Tokens, Apex Coins, or via the Champion Edition.

Class: Skirmisher • Age: 26 • Homeworld: Psamathe • Nickname: High-Speed Daredevil
Abilities
Stim (Tactical)
Temporarily boosts Octane’s speed at the cost of health, while reducing the impact of slows.
- Effect: +30% walk speed, +40% sprint speed for 6 seconds
- Cost: 20 health (cannot drop below 1 HP)
- Cooldown: 1 second
- Removes existing slows on activation and reduces new slows during the effect
Tip: Use Stim to take long flanks quickly, rotate between off-angles, or disengage with evasive zigzags. Always track your HP—Stim cannot kill you, but it makes you easier to finish if you overuse it mid-fight.
Swift Mend (Passive)
Automatically restores health over time after avoiding damage.
- After 6 seconds without taking damage: heals 1 HP per second
- Disabled while silenced
Tip: Let Swift Mend top you off between skirmishes to save syringes and Med Kits—especially helpful when dipping into the Ring for a quick revive or extra loot.
Launch Pad (Ultimate)
Deploys a jump pad that catapults anyone into the air; press jump again to double jump.
- Charge Time: ~1.5 minutes
- Pad Health: 200 (max 4 pads active)
- Trajectory: high arc when walking/sprinting; low, farther arc when sliding/crouching
- Items and abilities can bounce off the pad to extend their reach
Tip: Use pads to outflank, force angles, or launch a downed ally to safer cover for revives. Indoors, the pad can send you to ceilings; placing one in a doorway can block entry. The activation sound is loud—expect attention.
Legend Upgrades
In Battle Royale, Octane can unlock upgrades as his Evo Armor levels up (Season 20+):
- Level 2: Thick Skin (−5 Stim damage) or Mad Hops (+1 Launch Pad charge)
- Level 3: Thick Skin (−5 Stim damage) or Airborne Agility (change direction on Launch Pad double-jump)
Lore
Octavio Silva lived fast and lavishly, chasing adrenaline on camera for his fans. After a grenade-powered stunt shattered his legs, he pressured Ajay Che to procure bionic replacements. With cybernetic limbs and a taste for danger, Octane found his ultimate rush in the Apex Games. Despite complicated family ties—his CEO father now helms the Syndicate—Octane cares most about one thing: winning in the flashiest, most death-defying way possible.
